PHOTOGRAPHERS: FRANCISCO SECO: Stories: Rudos vs Técnicos

Mexican wrestlers (luchadores) are traditionally divided into two categories, Rudos (bad guys or heels), who bend or break the rules, and Técnicos (the good guys or faces), who play by the rules and their moves are much more complex and spectacular. Anyway, both of them are still expected to live up to a luchador code of honor.

Mexican wrestling became one of the most popular sport in Mexico in the early 1990s, so much so that some mexican wrestlers are considered like national heroes. Mexican wrestling is characterized by rapid sequences of holds and moves, as well as high-flying moves, some of which have been adopted in the United States.

The wrestlers hide theirs secret identities under a mask and never show their faces in public. Maks have a historical significance to Mexico in general dating to the days of the Aztecs.
